🍂 November Lawn/Landscape Care Updates from Preston’s Lawn Care Services, LLC

As autumn’s vibrant colors fade and November ushers in its cool, crisp air, now is the time to give your lawn the care it needs to transition smoothly into winter. While the growing season may be coming to a close, this is one of the most important months for protecting your investment in your home’s landscape.

Our focus this month is on end-of-season lawn and landscape preparation — everything from final mowing and irrigation shutdowns to leaf removal, fertilization, and winter readiness. My crews and I have been working diligently to complete all fall clean-ups, landscaping projects, and ongoing maintenance before the first hard frost.

Here’s a detailed overview of what to expect in the coming weeks:

1. Mowing Schedule & Lawn Growth Management
We’ll continue weekly mowing services through November, weather permitting. To accommodate the Thanksgiving holiday, we’ll adjust our schedule so all lawns are freshly cut before your gatherings and travel plans.

Tall Fescue Lawns
If your lawn was aerated and overseeded this fall, you may notice faster and denser growth. The combination of cooler temperatures and consistent moisture creates ideal growing conditions for fescue. Regular mowing helps young grass develop thicker blades and stronger roots.
I’ll be monitoring these lawns closely and adjusting the mowing height and frequency to promote healthy establishment without scalping new growth.

Bermuda & Zoysia Lawns
Warm-season grasses like Bermuda and Zoysia are now slowing down as soil temperatures drop. They will begin entering dormancy this month, turning a straw-like color as they rest through winter. We’ll perform one or two final mowings to remove excess thatch and keep your yard neat.
Maintaining a clean surface reduces the risk of disease and ensures a smoother transition back to green when temperatures rise in spring.

December Mowing (By Request)
Since fescue lawns can continue to grow during mild spells, we will offer mowing services into early December upon request. Simply contact us if you’d like to remain on the schedule through the season’s end.

2. Irrigation System Winterization
Starting this week, we’ll begin winterizing irrigation systems to protect them from freezing temperatures. You’ll receive a notice in advance with your exact service date and time window.

Before our arrival, please switch your irrigation controller to the “OFF” position. With recent rainfall and cooler temperatures, your lawn and landscape beds have sufficient soil moisture, and additional watering is no longer necessary.

When we arrive, please place your irrigation caps either on your front porch or near your backflow preventer. These caps are essential for sealing your pipes against cold air and rainwater. If you don’t already have them, we can provide durable protective caps for $40, installed.

Proper winterization prevents costly freeze damage, cracked lines, and backflow issues — saving you from major repair costs in the spring.

3. Fall Clean-Ups, Leaf Removal & Mulching
We’re now scheduling fall clean-ups, leaf removal, pruning, and mulching services through early December. These services are essential for maintaining lawn and landscape health during the dormant season.

Leaf Removal: A thick blanket of leaves may look pretty, but it blocks sunlight, traps moisture, and creates an ideal environment for fungus and pests. Over winter, this can lead to bare patches and dead grass that require spring reseeding.

Pruning: Late fall is the perfect time to trim perennials, evergreens, and low-hanging branches. Pruning now helps plants conserve energy, encourages healthy spring growth, and prevents winter breakage caused by snow or ice.

Mulching: Adding a fresh layer of mulch provides insulation for your plant roots, stabilizes soil temperature, and gives your landscape a clean, polished look for the holidays.

If you’d like to schedule any of these services, please contact us soon. November is our busiest month for end-of-season maintenance, and spots are filling quickly.

4. Landscape Projects & Design Consultations
We’re currently finalizing ongoing landscape installations and renovation projects before the end of the season. Due to high demand, we are booking new design consultations for Spring 2026.

If you have ideas for a landscape redesign, hardscape addition, or seasonal planting plan, now is the perfect time to discuss them. Early planning allows us to create detailed designs and secure materials ahead of the spring rush, ensuring your project can begin on schedule once temperatures warm up.
